Boise Airport
FIDS & PA phased roll-out
"The unified communication approach has been good for us – we now manage, train staff on, and pay for one system instead of juggling separate audio and display vendors. This has simplified our operations while improving passenger communication and delivering cost savings."
Boise Airport serves Idaho's capital city as the state's busiest commercial airport, handling over 3 million passengers annually with nonstop service to major hubs across the United States.
The journey with Simpleway began in 2019 when Boise Airport needed to replace their MUFIDS system. The scope required deploying 88 displays of varying specifications-including Full HD, 4K, and ultra-wide stretch screens-throughout the terminal, along with complete infrastructure replacement.
The FIDS implementation integrates directly with the airport's AODB. Real-time flight information automatically updates across all displays as flight data changes. Display contents were created for standard use cases including gate displays, baggage belt information, flight lists, and TSA-specific messaging, while Marketing department also manages their dedicated content. The intuitive content designer enables different departments to create and manage their specific content, while role-based access control ensures each department can only edit their dedicated portions of the system. Boise Airport's unique operational requirements, particularly around their C Concourse gate and boarding door configuration, required custom modifications that Simpleway delivered without compromising system integrity.
Building on the good relationship established through the FIDS implementation and the system's proven stability, Boise Airport chose Simpleway's voice announcement solution when their legacy PA system needed replacement in 2024. This decision creates a unified communication platform, eliminating the complexity of managing separate vendors, simplifying staff training, and reducing overall system costs.
The PA implementation enables gate personnel to trigger boarding announcements from micnode2 touch screen microphone stations running a purpose-built GateUI with real-time flight data. Staff can access both live paging and preconfigured TTS announcements from the same interface. With FlexUI airport personnel handles general announcements throughout the terminal. Text-to-Speech technology in both English and Spanish allows operators to compile professionally sounding announcements without the need for pre-recorded messages, giving them flexibility to conduct ad hoc changes. Scheduled announcements enable staff to plan general announcements in advance. Visual paging with zone configuration supports accessibility standards, ensuring announcements reach the right audience while meeting regulatory compliance.
Tugman devices with an intuitive application are used by baggage handlers to insert the belt number for unloaded aircraft. This number is shown on flight lists and belt displays so passengers know which belt to pick up their luggage.
Simpleway's ongoing system enhancements deliver continuous value through regular upgrades that improve security and add new features without disrupting operations. The system's scalability positions Boise Airport for future terminal growth while maintaining unified communication standards across all passenger touchpoints.
